Training with Purpose: A Community-Driven Martial Arts Culture

Our guiding principles include:
  1. Service first, always – We run as a non-profit club. Every pound you pay goes into three things: keeping classes affordable, buying good equipment, and helping local charities. Venue, insurance, risk checks—once those basics are covered, any extra cash is donated to the community.
  2. Train hard and enjoy it – Sessions are tough enough to make you sweat but friendly enough to leave you smiling.
  3. Safety – Correct gear, clear rules, and “stop if it feels wrong.”
  4. Open mats for everyone – All ages, fitness levels, and abilities are welcome. We adapt drills so each person can improve at their own pace.
  5. Volunteer teachers – Our instructors give their time for free because they love Tang Soo Do and want to pass it on.
  6. Learn everywhere, share everywhere – We encourage cross-training which helps to produce a better martial artists.
  7. Respect on and off the mats – Bow to partners, thank opponents, welcome visitors and respect venue staff.
  8. Grow tomorrow’s instructors – Higher-belt students learn to coach, referee, and organise events so they can guide the next generation.
  9. Honour the art – Alongside kicks and punches, we study the values behind Tang Soo Do, keeping the tradition alive.

Some of the people you will meet when you train with us include:

Master Philip Mashinchi

Lead Instructor

Philip Mashinchi, our 6th Dan lead instructor, has been immersed in Tang Soo Do since 1992—a lifetime of kicking, blocking, and refining the art one class at a time. His trademark sessions are equal parts sweat and smiles: expect drills that push your stamina, sharpen your technique, and leave you grinning by the final bow.

Drawing on more than three decades of expertise, Master Mashinchi blends old‑school discipline with upbeat energy, creating a training atmosphere where “tough” and “fun” go hand in hand. Whether you’re lacing up your first white‑belt uniform or chasing your next Dan, his goal is simple—help you discover just how strong, skilled, and spirited you can become.

Master Chranj Dingri

Instructor

Master Chranj Dingri, our precise and powerful 5th Dan instructor, embodies the razor‑sharp technique of classical Tang Soo Do. His movements are crisp—each block, kick, and strike delivered with textbook form—and his sparring sessions blend speed, strategy, and intensity that challenge even seasoned practitioners.

A passionate guardian of tradition, Master Dingri weaves the art’s time‑honoured forms and etiquette into every class, yet still drives students to sweat hard and push past their limits. Train under him and you’ll find the perfect balance of disciplined practice, technical finesse, and spirited hard work that keeps Tang Soo Do’s rich heritage alive.
